Abstract

This study discusses the comparative religion topics found in Tafsir Mazhar al-Quran, an important Qur’anic commentary written in the scholarly tradition of the Indian subcontinent. The Qur’an is the final divine book that guides humanity in matters of faith, worship, morality, and daily life. It also explains the beliefs and histories of earlier nations and religions. In this tafsir, the commentator, Qazi Mazhar Allah, explains different religions in the light of the Qur’an and shows the unique teachings of Islam in a simple and scholarly way.The tafsir mainly discusses Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, and some other religions, while comparing their beliefs with the teachings of Islam. The study explains that the purpose of the tafsir is not only criticism of other religions but also to present Islam as a complete, peaceful, and true religion. The commentary points out some changes and misunderstandings that appeared in earlier religions over time, especially regarding the belief in the oneness of God.It discusses topics such as the belief in Jesus as divine and the Jewish claim about Ezra being the son of God, which the Qur’an rejects clearly. It also highlights the Islamic concept of Tawhid and explains that Islam presents a pure, simple, and natural understanding of God. Another important feature of Tafsir Mazhar al-Quran is its concise and easy style. The author explains Qur’anic verses clearly without lengthy and difficult discussions, making the tafsir useful for both students and general readers. In the modern world, where interfaith dialogue and peaceful relations among religions are important, this tafsir provides valuable guidance for understanding Islam and comparing it with other faiths.
